IREF -The Organisation

Rice production in India is a vital component of the country’s agricultural sector and has a significant impact on the nation’s economy, food security, and cultural heritage. Moreover, India is the second largest producer of rice right after China. The cultivation of rice in India has a rich history dating back thousands of years, and it continues to play a crucial role in the daily lives of millions of people.

After meeting the domestic consumption demand, India is the largest exporter of rice, and it shows a continuous increase over the year. Throughout 2022-2023, the output of rice is estimated somewhere at 135.52 million tonnes, about six million tonnes from 2021-2022.

While non-basmati rice is harvested across states in the nation, Basmati rice as a Geographical Indication (GI) product is only grown across the foothills of the Himalayas, including Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Western Uttar Pradesh, and three districts of J&K under the Jammu division.

Key Features of IREF

The Indian Rice Exporters Federation (IREF) is a professional organisation that represents and promotes the interests of rice exporters in India. We play an important role in the Indian rice sector, contributing to trade, advocacy, and market growth.

The association works closely with government agencies to address regulatory and trade issues that may impact rice exports. We serve as a liaison between its members and relevant government bodies like State and Central agencies to facilitate communication and cooperation related to trade.

One of the primary objectives of IREF is to promote Indian rice in the global market. This includes both long-grain and medium-grain rice varieties produced in India. The association works to showcase the quality, safety, and sustainability of home-grown rice to potential international buyers.

IREF engages in various promotional activities to boost Indian rice exports and trade. We may include participation in international trade fairs, organising meetings, and directing campaigns in target markets.

IREF also plays a major role in advocating favorable trade policies and market access for Indian rice in international markets. We work closely with government agencies, policymakers, and trade organisations to address trade barriers and other concerns that may impact rice exports.

Our commitment to promoting sustainable and environmentally responsible rice production and export practices makes us the leading name in the rice industry. It includes efforts to reduce the environmental footprint of rice cultivation and processing.

As the trusted name in the industry, IREF ensures to help members understand complicated international trade policies, export regulations, and compliance requirements.
