India Russia, in a major attempt to strengthen their bilateral ties, have inked 16 agreements across defence, trade, economy, and healthcare. Notably, Russian president Vladimir Putin was on his official visit to India where both the nations agreed to expand trade and defence ties between countries with decades-old ties. In this context, PM Narendra Modi while addressing a joint press meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit in New Delhi expressed confidence that India Russia friendly ties will give the strength to face global challenges and trade tensions. Further, both the nations shared a common vision of no-tolerance policy against terrorism.
India Russia Ink 16 Agreements
Both India Russia ink 16 agreements in areas of defence, trade, economy, and healthcare. Among the several agreements, the major outcome was the signing of a Labour Mobility Agreement, enabling skilled Indian workers to take up jobs in Russia. Further, both sides also focused on the 2030 roadmap for India–Russia economic cooperation, which was first launched during Modi’s 2024 Moscow.
MoU to Build urea production plant
Both the nations, also signed an MoU to build a urea production plant in Russia, strengthening India’s fertilizer security and supply chain stability. Several announcements were also made post the high-level meeting:
- Grant of 30 days e-Tourist Visa on gratis basis to Russian nationals on reciprocal basis.
- Grant of Group Tourist Visa on gratis basis to Russian nationals
- The Russian side has decided to adopt the Framework Agreement to join the International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA).
