According to an agriculture ministry data released on Tuesday, November 26, India’s horticulture production increased marginally by 4 per cent to 369.05 million tonnes in the crop year June 2025, on higher production of fruits and vegetables. The horticulture production was around 354.74 million tonnes in the last year. Interestingly, the acreage of horticultural crops is estimated to cover an area of 29.48 million hectares in the 2024-25 crop year (july-june), marginally higher than 29.08 million hectares in the last year.
Agri Minister Chouhan cited the progress in Horticultural production
Agricultural Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan mentioned that significant progress has been made in fruit and vegetable production. As per the third advance estimate of the ministry, fruit production is estimated to have increased by 5.12 per cent to 118.76 million tonnes, with Bananas, mangoes, watermelons, jackfruit, mandarins, papayas and guavas contributing significantly.
Projection of Vegetable production, Onion production and spice production
Vegetable production is expected to have increased by 4.09 per cent to 215.68 million tonnes, and Onion production especially expected to have risen to 30.78 million tonnes in 2024-25 from 24.26 million tonnes in the last year. Potato production is expected to marginally increase by 1.85 per cent to 58.10 million tonnes, whereas Tomato production was at 19.46 million tonnes for 2024-25 Moreover, production of aromatic and medicinal plants is expected to have increased to 7,81,000 tonnes, from 7,26, 000 tonnes last year. Spice Production is estimated at 12.50 million tonnes, with increased production of garlic, ginger and turmeric. Currently, 2025-26 crop cycle is underway.
