The centre has approved MGNREGA work limit to 150 days for flood affected J&K, which has been welcomed by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha as well. This move was recommended by the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare which during its recommendation requested to extend the benefit of additional employment of 50 days over and above the 100 days per household under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) in the flood, cloud burst, and landslide-affected areas of the Union territory for the 2025-26 financial year.
In this context, keeping in view of the likelihood of increased demand for employment on public works due to natural calamities, it has been decided to provide up to 50 days of additional employment over and above the 100 days per household in the affected rural areas of Jammu and Kashmir for FY 2025-26. For this exception support by the union government that ensures extended employment guarantee for MGNREGA workers, Manoj Sinha has expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan for increasing the MGNREGA work limit.

For the unversed, MGNREGA is an Indian government scheme that provides a legal guarantee of at least 100 days of paid, unskilled manual work per financial year to every rural household whose adult members volunteer to do such work.
