Cambodia’s agricultural exports have exceeded 11 million tonnes in the first 10 months of 2025, marking a major milestone in the country’s export growth and reinforcing its position as one of Southeast Asia’s key players in farm exports. According to a recent report from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF), the nation generated over $4.18 billion in revenue — a 28.57 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
Strong Performance in Agricultural Exports and Rice Industry
Between January and October 2025, Cambodia exports reached 11,890,005 tonnes of agricultural products to 90 international markets, showcasing robust trade performance across major commodities. The export statistics from the General Directorate of Agriculture’s National Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) database revealed the following breakdown:
- Non-rice agricultural products: 5.74 million tonnes
- Paddy rice: 5.44 million tonnes
- Milled rice: 698,939 tonnes
The total agri exports were valued at $4.18 billion, with non-rice products contributing $2.53 billion, paddy rice generating $1.09 billion, and milled rice earning $556.5 million.
Cambodia Agriculture and Export Market Trends
Despite challenges in cross-border logistics, particularly with Thailand’s temporary closure of certain checkpoints, Cambodia continued to maintain its export record. Exports to Thailand reached $260.19 million, representing 6.22 percent of total food exports, with some shipments diverted through water routes. From June 24 to October 31, around 2,398 tonnes of crops worth $7.05 million were exported via river transport. However, the report also highlighted a 27.52 percent decline in agricultural exports during October compared to September, with total monthly exports valued at $1.25 million.
Export Growth Driven by Rice Exports and Crop Production
The Cambodia agriculture sector showed remarkable resilience, with total export volume increasing by 2.64 million tonnes compared to 2024. Notably:
- Paddy rice exports rose by 1.98 million tonnes
- Non-rice products increased by 465,132 tonnes
- Milled rice exports grew by 191,910 tonnes
These figures underscore Cambodia’s expanding rice industry and its pivotal role in supporting national economic growth in economy 2025.
Shift in Farming Practices Boosts Processed Exports
While some fresh crop categories saw declines, Cambodia’s crop production strategies have evolved toward value-added processing. Fresh cassava exports decreased as more farmers shifted to producing dried cassava and cassava starch, which offer longer shelf life and higher profit margins. During the same period, dried cassava exports surged by 60.91 percent, and cassava starch exports jumped by 82.59 percent, reflecting diversification and modernization within the agricultural exports sector. In this context, MAFF emphasized that continued investment in agri exports, trade performance, and farm exports will be essential to sustaining this growth trajectory. With rising global demand for rice, cassava, and other food exports, Cambodia is on track to strengthen its export record and contribute significantly to the nation’s economy in 2025.
