On Saturday, September 27, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin lauds Agriculture scientist M S Swaminathan for his contributions in the agriculture sector and green revolution at Swaminathan’s centenary birth anniversary celebration in Chennai.
What did the Minister say about Agri Scientist M S Swaminathan and Agriculture?
The minister said, “Few people have lived their lives, making a long-lasting impact on crores of people. Swaminathan is one of them. When crores of people were hungry, he undertook the green revolution and ended hunger. For this, India will never forget him”. Not only this, he praised Swaminathan’s farsightedness as the scientist raised concerns about global warming.
Furthermore, he says, “In the 1950s and 1960s, the government was focused on building the country, and in the process, could not feed its people. After independence, due to which several died of hunger, but now such a situation does not exist, just because of Swaminathan, who is responsible for a hunger-free country.
CM Stalin inaugurated the Agriculture Business Festival
In addition, the Chief Minister, MK Stalin, inaugurated a two-day Agri Business Festival in Chennai, and he said that after DMK took office, water from Mettur Dam was released at the right time for kuruvai cultivation. The total area for kuruvai cultivation was 5.66 lakh hectares, and when compared to last year, this year, it has increased by 1.28 lakh hectares. While recalling a letter to PM Modi requesting adequate fertilizer supply to Tamil Nadu, the minister stated, “I have been assured that action will be taken. We are working towards ensuring that the farmers and agriculture in the state do not suffer.” Moreover, he said that I am proud to say that three years ago, food grain productivity was 2,835 kg per hectare. Today it has increased to 2,857 kg per hectare. The state holds first position in India in crop productivity and second for maize, total oilseeds, and sugarcane, whereas it holds third position for millets and groundnut.
