PM Modi, Trump Likely to Discuss Trade Deal After US Tariffs Imposed

On Tuesday, US President Donald Trump said that his administration is continuing negotiations to discuss trade deals with India, and he would talk to PM Modi after the imposition of the US tariffs.

Taking to Truth Social, US President Donald Trump stated: “I am pleased to announce that India and the United States of America are continuing negotiations to address the Trade Barriers between our two Nations. I look forward to speaking with my very good friend, Prime Minister Modi, in the upcoming weeks. I feel certain that there will be no difficulty in coming to a successful conclusion for both of our Great Countries”.

PM Modi’s response to Trump’s Truth Social post after US Tariffs

Responding with optimism to Trump’s Truth Social post, PM Modi took to X(formerly Twitter) and wrote: “India and the US are close friends and natural partners. I am confident that our trade negotiations will pave the way for unlocking the limitless potential of the India-US partnership. Our teams are working to conclude these discussions at the earliest. I am also looking forward to speaking with President Trump. We will work together to secure a brighter, more prosperous future for both our people”.

US Tariffs on India for importing oil from Russia

Notably, US tariffs have come into effect since August 27, affecting goods exported to the US. Certainly, US tariffs will affect $ 48.2 billion worth of export merchandise to America. The US has already implemented a 25% reciprocal tariff on Indian imports on August 7. In addition, a 25% extra duty has come into effect from August 27, as a punishment to India, since the country is importing Russian oil.
