Dairy Products Exports in India Increased by 80% in FY25

India the largest producer of Milk contributing 24 per cent of the global production has now grown its dairy products exports by 80 per cent in FY25. Notably, dairy imports from the US remains a major stalemate in a trade deal with the US & India. However, as per the report’s contribution of India to the global dairy trade remains low at 0.25 per cent due to high domestic consumption.

The increased percentage of dairy products exports in FY25 suggest that India is on its way to becoming a significant exporter in the global dairy market. In FY25, India exported 113,350.4 metric tonnes of dairy products worth $492.9 million, up 77.9 per cent in volume and 80.6 per cent in value. Butter and clarifies butter (Ghee) possess a growth of 142 per cent growth in exports to 67,565 tonnes against 27,837 tonnes in the previous year. Whereas Milk and cream also depicted a growth though at a slower pace than that of butter and ghee. Milk powder exports registered a down in the exports figure after been registering an export figure of 9,700 tonnes which is considerably lower than compared to FY22 exporting figures of 49,654 tonnes.

The United Arab Emirates, Bangladesh, United States of America, Saudi Arabia, and Bhutan remain the major export destinations for Indian milk products. Products such as fermented milk also registered growth in exports. Major importers of milk products are Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation, Mother Dairy, The Punjab State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation, Bihar State Milk Co-operative Federation, and Britannia.

India’s per capita milk availability will grow by 4 per cent and touch 530 grams per day by FY27.
