Recently, hundreds of kilograms of rotting meat were confiscated by the JK Drug and Food Control Department on July 31. After this, around 36 trucks carrying rotten rice bags were found at the FCI Store in Shilvat, an area of North Kashmir’s Bandipora. Significantly, the trucks had departed from Punjab.
What the Locals Said about Rotten Rice?
Additionally, locals from the area reported to the media that a huge quantity of the rice appears to be rotten and deemed unsafe for consumption. Urging the Food Department for the immediate inspection, Locals also asked them to identify whether it should be distributed to the public or not.
Not only this, but the store manager stated: “I inspected one of the trucks and found that it contained rotten rice. I have reported the matter to the officials, who are now investigating it. I will not allow the unloading of this rice until the proper solution is found”. Besides this, a team that checks the rice at the store also identified the poor condition of the rotten rice. They admitted that the rice is indeed rotten and not suitable for consumption. “We are currently checking how many trucks carry rotten rice. For now, the supply will be halted. Only after cleaning and proper verification will any stock be distributed”, the team stated. Consumers in Kashmir have raised questions about the declining quality of food and products being delivered in the region.
Rotten Rice should be thrown away
Rotten Rice should not be consumed and thrown away quickly, as it contains Bacillus cereus, a bacterium that produces toxins leading to food poisoning. Even reheating will not eliminate them. The symptoms of food poisoning include nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, and diarrhoea, etc.
