Wheat procurement by the Food Corporation of India (FCI), for the current season, which started on April 1, has crossed 30 million tonnes (mt), which is highest in four years. The continuous effort by Rajasthan, proved to be the turning point in pushing the national total to this milestone.
Govt. wheat purchase had missed targets after a record procurement of 43.34 mt in 2021-22, 18.79 mt in 2022-23 (against a target of 44.4 mt), 26.2 mt in 2023-24 (34.15 mt), and 26.61 mt in 2024-25 (37.3 mt). Wheat production for the year 2024-25 is anticipated at 11.38 mt in Rajasthan.
Despite the wheat procurement period being extended till June 30, no new arrivals have been recorded at government centers after May 18. While official procurement in major wheat producing states like Punjab and Haryana ended on May 15, other states have seen a decrease in arrivals. However, the efforts by Rajasthan Food Corporation of India has been successful in achieving government procurement of 30 million tonnes of wheat.
