In a shocking and heart -wrenching incident, an Air India flight crashed near the Ahmedabad airport on Thursday, 12 June. An Air India Flight AI-171 carrying 242 passengers crashed minutes after taking off from the Ahmedabad airport. The plane crashed into a medical college hostel, which further added to the numbers of people who lost their lives. As per the latest updates, 241 out of 242 people on board the plane have died, and one injured patient is being treated.
Former Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani was among the passengers on London bound Air India flight. Leaders from different countries expressed their condolences over the Ahmedabad plane crash. The Air India plane crashed into residential quarters of BJ Medical College in Meghaninagar area of Ahmedabad.
Dr. Prem Garg, National President of the Indian Rice Exporters Federation (IREF) extended his deepest condolences to all the families who lost their dear ones in this tragic incident. Dr. Garg said, “this is a tragic incident, and words cannot express the loss”. Dr. Garg further added “On behalf of our entire Indian Rice Exporters federation (IREF) members I pray for the peace of the departed souls and strength for the ones left behind”.
Out of 242 passengers on plane, 169 were Indian passengers, 53 British citizens, 7 Portuguese passengers, and 1 Canadian citizen.
