In their continuous efforts to improve human life, scientists keep on researching on different products. In this endeavour scientists have identified 6 rare varieties of rice that have cancer-fighting properties.
Scientists claim to have found antioxidants in these varieties of rice, that protect the body from harmful elements. This discovery is considered very important for Asian countries like India and China, where a large number of people are being affected by diseases like colorectal cancer.
Cancer Fighting Properties in Varieties of Rice
Scientists at the Philippines-based International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) revealed this on the basis of their research on 1.32 lakh rice samples collected from different parts of the world. 800 coloured rice varieties were chemically tested. After this, six varieties of rice emerged as the container of high amounts of natural antioxidants and anti-cancer compounds. These elements were found to be equivalent to expensive super foods like blueberries and chia seeds.
For countries like India and China where cancer cases are constantly rising, this discovery can become a bridge between healthy food and affordable medicine.
