China Donates 95 Tonnes of Rice to Sagaing Flood Victims

According to reports, China has donated 95 tonnes of rice to support communities affected by severe flooding in Myanmar’s Sagaing Region. Since the assistance is aimed at providing immediate food relief to people whose homes and livelihoods have been severely impacted by the floods.

Shockingly, Sagaing has been among Myanmar’s worst-affected regions, with flooding disrupting communities, agricultural land and food supplies. Besides this, recent reports have stated that there has been significant damage to farmland and difficulties in delivering humanitarian assistance to affected areas.

The rice donation is expected to help fulfil the immediate food requirements of flood-affected families as recovery efforts continue. Not only this, but the assistance comes as concerns over food availability and rice prices have increased following damage to major agricultural areas.

Spoiled Rice Triggers Food Safety Concerns in Ganta

As per reports, food safety concerns have emerged in Ganta, Liberia, after allegedly spoiled parboiled rice was discovered during the offloading of a commercial shipment on September 12, 2026.

The affected rice was reportedly part of a consignment of 25-kilogram bags transported from Monrovia to the Jungle Water Distribution Store. Moreover, Witnesses said some bags showed dark stains and signs of rotten material, despite carrying an expiration date extending to December 2029.

A trailer conductor said the rice had not expired but appeared to have deteriorated. He suggested that leakage at the warehouse may have contributed to the problem, although the cause had not been confirmed.

Reportedly, workers separated the affected bags and returned them to the supplier. Later, reports indicated that Commerce authorities in Nimba County took possession of the rice for investigation.

Authorities are expected to determine the quantity affected, establish the cause of spoilage and assess whether any food-safety violations occurred.
