AP Begins Low-Cost Rice Sales at 130 Outlets From August 2

The Andhra Pradesh government will roll out its low-cost rice sale programme in 130 outlets from August 2, which aims to provide quality rice at affordable prices to consumers. However, the initiative is delayed by a day due to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bhogapuram airport inauguration event, which will offer BPT Super Fine Rice at ₹52 per kg and BPT Raw Rice at ₹50 per kg. Moreover, the rice will be available through special counters at Rythu Bazaars, whereas around 500 rice mill outlets across the state will also participate in the programme. Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Nadendla Manohar has instructed the officials to ensure uninterrupted supply, maintain quality standards and create public awareness about the scheme. Officials will monitor sales and consumer response through digital tracking systems to ensure smooth distribution. The move is expected to offer price relief to households amid concerns over rising rice prices.
How AI-Designed Genome Editing Enzyme Brings New Hope for Rice Improvement?

Indian scientists at the ICAR–National Rice Research Institute (NRRI), Cuttack, have developed and tested an artificial intelligence (AI)-designed genome-editing enzyme that can precisely modify rice DNA. Furthermore, the breakthrough involves Plant OpenCRISPR-1 (POC1), an AI-generated genome-editing tool that has shown performance comparable to conventional CRISPR systems in rice.
Moreover, the technology allows targeted gene editing, including gene knockout, base editing and prime editing, enabling researchers to develop enhanced crop varieties with traits including higher yield, disease resistance, better grain quality and climate resilience.
