Cambodia Targets 60,000-Tonne Rice Exports to Philippines via Direct Route

According to the latest updates, Cambodia will export 60,000 tonnes of milled rice to the Philippines by the end of 2026. This marks the first export of this kind and the start of waterway transport from Kampot Port to the Philippines. Moreover, Signature Rice, a Cambodian rice export company, announced that 15,000 tonnes of rice will be shipped in October and 45,000 tonnes in November and December on October 3.
In the press release, the rice company said that rice export through the direct waterway route between Cambodia and the Philippines allows the rice exporters to export a great amount on a large ship instead of shipping in containers. This transport helps in facilitating rice exports in huge amounts, and makes it easier for purchasers to receive the rice in the demanded amounts within one shipment. Therefore, this will enhance the competitiveness of Cambodia for milled rice on the global market, contributing to the national goal of exporting one million tonnes a year.
Vidarbha’s Rice Bowl is Shrinking. Here’s Why?

Vidarbha’s rice bowl, Bhandara is shrinking as the district is witnessing heavy paddy losses due to the prolonged dry spell and a pest attack. It prompted guardian minister Pankaj Bhoyar to direct officials to escalate the evaluation process under Trigger-1. The state government declared three talukas in Bhandara as named Tumsar and Mohadi. Moreover, farmers informed the Bhoyar about the entire wipeout of crops due to lack of rainfall. Importantly, rice cultivation covers 1.83 lakh hectares in the district. Besides rice, cotton crops have also taken a toll. As per the information, in some villages, farmers have started sowing cotton too. Plants have failed to produce cotton balls due to deficient rainfall. As the farmers urge for immediate relief, the minister assured that authorities are working as soon as possible. Lastly, the minister expressed firm support to farmers by saying: “farmers won’t be left alone. Govt will stand with them with full strength to support their toil and give them relief”.
What Does Myanmar Rice Federation’s Warning to Rice Traders State?
The Myanmar Rice Federation (MRF) issued a public statement on October 3. The statement asks rice traders to strictly comply with regulations set by the State and relevant organizations, including those prohibiting transactions through multiple layers of rice brokerage channels inside or outside designated rice wholesale centres and irregular trading practices intended to drive up prices.
Notably, the federation issued four mandatory guidelines for rice traders to ensure the stability of Myanmar Pawsan rice prices and promote increased export volumes. The statement specifies that rice traders operating within wholesale centres must systematically maintain records of incoming and outgoing rice. Not only this, but the rice traders need to submit them daily to the respective wholesale centres.
In addition, member rice traders in Myanmar are asked to register their warehouses on the Myanmar Rice Online (MyRo) registration system and update their rice inventory volumes promptly in accordance with the established rules and regulations. Subsequently, the MRF reminded all rice traders to fully cooperate with and comply with rice pricing guidelines and regulations issued by the relevant departments and organizations
