200 Rice Varieties, One Global Platform: BIRC 2026

The Bharat International Rice Conference 2026 (BIRC 2026) is set to bring the global rice industry together once again in New Delhi.

Nearly 200 rice varieties from different parts of the world expected to be showcased in this conference. Moreover, the conference is scheduled from October 23 to 25 at Bharat Mandapam which will provide a platform for Indian rice exporters, millers, international rice buyers, policymakers and businesses to explore new opportunities in the global rice market.

200 Rice Varieties in Focus At BIRC 2026

The world’s largest conference will highlight the diversity of rice available in the international markets and also display recipes made out of these rice varieties Notably, varieties expected to draw attention include Jammu’s Basmati rice and Italy’s Arborio, along with specialty rice, traditional and GI-tagged rice varieties such as Gobindobhog from Bengal, Assam’s Joha, UP’s Kalanamak, and Muskbhudji from Kashmir.

In addition, the Bharat International Rice Conference 2026 aims to help international rice buyers understand how different varieties can fulfill specific consumer and culinary preferences. While some Indian rice varieties are identified for their aroma and long grains, others are preferred for sticky textures or dishes such as risotto, biryani and fried rice.

BIRC 2026: Expanding India’s Rice Export Opportunities

Significantly, India exports rice to more than 170 countries which makes the country a major player in the global rice trade. In this context, the conference could offer Indian rice exporters with an opportunity to promote lesser-known varieties alongside established varieties such as Basmati rice.

The focus is shifting from export volumes to identifying the right rice varieties for specific international markets. This could create new rice export opportunities for farmers, exporters and processors along with increasing global awareness of India’s specialty rice exports. The participation is expected from more than 120 countries in BIRC 2026 as the conferece is positioned as an important meeting point for rice buyers, exporters and businesses seeking new opportunities in the global rice market and Indian rice export market.
