India Becomes World’s Largest Rice Producer: Union Agri Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan

On Sunday, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that India has become the world’s largest rice producer, surpassing China. He stated India’s rice production has climbed to 150.18 million tonnes, compared to China’s 145.28 million tonnes. Furthermore, Mr. Chouhan mentioned that India is now supplying rice to overseas markets. The Minister introduced 184 varieties of 25 field crops developed by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research at an event held in the national capital. The 184 released varieties comprise 122 cereals, 6 pulses, 13 oilseeds, 11 fodder crops, 6 sugarcane, 24 cotton, and one each of jute and Tobacco.
Tamil Nadu Govt. Declared Rs 3,000 Pongal Gift For All Rice Ration Card-Holders

The Tamil Nadu Government on Sunday announced that Rs. 3,000 in Cash would be provided on the directions of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin. Not only this, but it also contains Pongal gift hampers to more than 2.22 crore rice ration card-holders this year. Families living in the Sri Lankan Tamil rehabilitation camps would also get the cash component as part of the gift hampers. In addition, the government would incur an expenditure of Rs 6, 936 crore on account of the distribution of the gift hampers with the cash component. Additionally, arrangements have been made for the distribution of free dhotis and saris too, an official release stated.
