On Wednesday, August 6, Civil Supplies Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the Philippines’ agriculture minister, Francisco P Tiu Laurel Jr, has expressed interest in increasing the rice and paddy exports from Telangana to his country. Not only this, but he also stated that the Philippines’ agriculture minister has applauded the quality of sona rice from Telangana, which is exported to them
Moreover, the press release after the meeting between Uttam Kumar Reddy and the Philippines’ agriculture minister has cited the positive response regarding increasing the maize export from Telangana to the Philippines.
Furthermore, Civil Supplies Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy said: “The agriculture minister, Laurel Jr highlighted that the Philippines rice demand and paddy might be nearly 2 million metric tonnes in the calendar year of 2026. It is a breakthrough that he positively responded to Telangana’s proposal to export paddy, along with rice,” followed by his meeting with Laurel Jr in New Delhi.
Besides this, Civil Supplies Commissioner DS Chauhan, who was present at this occasion, indicated the potential export of Telangana’s Sona (RNR 15048) rice variety, which the Philippine minister also found interesting. In response, Uttam Kumar Reddy extended thanks to the Philippine Minister and assured him of full cooperation and a commitment to consolidating and expanding trade relations between Telangana and the Philippines. Additionally, the minister invited Laurel Jr to visit Telangana later this year, which he accepted gracefully. Apart from this, the Philippines’ agriculture minister also highlighted that they would soon invite Uttam Kumar Reddy to visit the Philippines.
