IREF Launches “Anna Khestra – Nurturing Our Community” Campaign at Deendayal Port, Kandla, Amid Heatwave and Export Challenges

Amid intense summer heat and ongoing pressures in the export sector, the Indian Rice Exporters Federation (IREF) has launched a week-long community welfare initiative titled “Anna Kshetra– Nurturing Our Community” at Deendayal Port, Kandla. The campaign, running from May 23 to May 30, is being organised in collaboration with Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Eximwala Solutions, Sagarmala Port Led Authority, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways.

The initiative has been started at Deendayal Port, Kandla to provide relief to port workers who continue to work in extreme heat conditions to ensure uninterrupted cargo operations. Under this programme, workers are being provided with traditional refreshments such as Lassi, buttermilk and cold drinks along with nutritious food to help them cope with the harsh weather.

The campaign was inaugurated by DPA Chairman Shri Sushil Kumar Singh, who appreciated the initiative and emphasised that workers are the real strength of Deendayal Port. He stated that labourers are true partners in the growth and development of India’s maritime sector and play a crucial role in sustaining port operations.

Speaking on the occasion, representatives of IREF expressed gratitude to the port authorities and highlighted their support for recent progressive reforms such as the new berthing policy, which is expected to improve operational efficiency and benefit port users.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Traffic Manager B. Ratan Shekhar Rao, GCCI President Tejabhai Kangad, Secretary Mahesh Tirthani, IREF State President Narendra Ramani, and Vice President Nikit Ramdasani.

Organisers noted that the “Anna Khestra” campaign is not only a relief effort but also a symbol of social responsibility and solidarity with the workforce that powers India’s export infrastructure. Amid export challenges and extreme weather conditions, the initiative reflects a strong commitment to worker welfare and community support at one of India’s key maritime gateways.
