West Bengal the largest rice producer of the country is once again aiming to surpass its own record of 2024-25 which was 256 lakh tonnes. However, in 2025 it intends to break its own record in paddy production. It has set the target of 42 lakh hectares for the crop year July 2025 to June 2026 which was 41 lakh hectares for the 2024-25 season.
Paddy Production Target of 42 Lakh Hectares
Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Pradeep Majumdar says that in our state, farmers have sowed paddy in about 3 lakh hectares so far in the current Kharif season. We are confident that we will achieve 100 percent of the sowing target. Minister further added that this time the monsoon has arrived on time and the rain situation is also better thus helping farmers in preparing the field and sowing paddy on time.
West Bengal Aims to Remain Top Producer of Rice
According to a report by Careage Ratings, till July 7, the total rainfall in India has been 15 percent more than the long-term average. The early arrival of monsoon has supported sowing. Due to this, the total sowing area has increased by 11.1 percent year-on-year till July 4, including a significant increase of 18.3 percent in food grain sowing.
