Union Commerce Minister Praises GST2.0 Reforms, Condemns Congress’s Taxation Policy

Union Commerce and Finance Minister Piyush Goyal praised GST2.0 reforms while condemning the Congress for its past taxation policy. He called the latest round of the GST rate cuts a historic & transformational step that will lessen the consumer burden and increase demand. He launched a sharp attack on Congress, accusing it of leaving behind a high-taxation, fragile economy and failing to build consensus on reforms during its reign in office. The Minister said: “Such a change in the tax structure has never happened since Independence. PM Narendra Modi has given a big gift to 140 crore Indians.” Not only this, but he compared this with Congress’s record, saying: “For 10 years (2004 to 2014), they did corruption. Congress means high taxation, tax upon tax and sometimes up to 95%.

What does the Minister Further say about GST2.0 Reforms ?

The Minister stated that the government has simplified the GST2.0 Reforms and also provided transparency and relief. He asserted: “From soaps and toothpaste to scooters, fridges and textiles, the benefit will be passed on. For 35-36 life-saving drugs, GST2.0 reforms in India have been brought down to zero”. In addition, he refuted opposition criticism, claiming Congress was trying to spread falsehoods to cover up its failures. He denounced Rahul Gandhi, saying: “We all know he is like a rocket that has failed many times after being launched. He himself often forgets what he said earlier and what he says now”.

Lastly, he praised the government’s efforts: “Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji left a strong economy. Congress weakened it. Modi ji turned India into the world’s fastest-growing economy at 7.8%”. He also refuted allegations that the timing of reforms was politically motivated and said, “My government never takes decisions keeping elections in mind.”
