On February 1, 2026, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget 2026–27 in Parliament, marking her ninth consecutive budget speech. The fiscal blueprint focuses on boosting growth, expanding infrastructure, incentivising manufacturing, and strengthening strategic sectors amid a moderately uncertain global economic environment. In the Union Budget 2026, The government continued its infrastructure-led growth strategy, with record capital expenditure outlays aimed at strengthening transport, logistics and connectivity. Fiscal consolidation remains a priority with the fiscal deficit targeted around 4.3% of GDP.

When it comes to Infrastructure and connectivity, the budget includes seven environmentally sustainable high-speed rail corridors that were unveiled to connect key city clusters, while transport and logistics infrastructure received significant allocations to improve economic connectivity across regions.

Furthermore, the Budget launched the India Semiconductor Mission 2.0, with enhanced funding, to build a robust semiconductor ecosystem and reduce reliance on imports. A BioPharma Shakti programme with a ₹10,000 crore outlay aims to position India as a global biopharma hub. A new SME Growth Fund of ₹10,000 crore was also announced to create future jobs.

But, there were no changes to major income tax slabs, offering stability for taxpayers, even as markets reacted with volatility post‑presentation. Various incentives and regulatory reforms were introduced to deepen financial markets, expand credit access and boost urban infrastructure via municipal bond incentives.

In addition, Budget 2026 places a strong emphasis on technology-driven and diversified agriculture. FM Sitharaman announced the launch of Bharat Vistaar, a multilingual AI-based agricultural tool designed to integrate data from AgriStack and ICAR to provide farmers with customised advisory support, weather updates and decision-making tools in local languages. It also also outlined support for high‑value crops such as coconut, sandalwood, cocoa, cashew, and nuts — including dedicated schemes to replace unproductive trees with high‑yield varieties and boost productivity. Initiatives in livestock, poultry and allied value chains, including credit-linked subsidies and support for FPOs, aim to enhance rural livelihoods and employment.

Orange Economy In Union Budget 2026

A notable feature of the Budget was the spotlight on the Orange Economy, the creative and cultural industries encompassing animation, visual effects, gaming and comics (AVGC). The government announced plans to set up AVGC content creator labs in 15,000 secondary schools and 500 colleges, aiming to build talent and employment in this fast-growing digital ecosystem.
