Trump Asks EU to Impose 100% Tariffs on Russian Oil Buyers India & China

A latest report on US President Donald Trump urging European Union to impose 100% tariffs on Russian oil buyers has grabbed everyone’s attention. US president reportedly has urged EU to slap tariffs of up to 100 per cent on Chinese and Indian goods as part of a strategy to pressure Russian President Vladimir Putin.

In this context, the US official quoted that the only way to stop the war is to stop the source of the money, which as per the US is the purchase of the Russian oil by nations like India and China. The United States of America has always alleged that the source of the money for the Russian war machine is oil purchases by China and India. However, Europe as of now has shown no signs of acceptance to the White House’s request.

Trump Actions Don’t Meet Words

The reports of Donald Trump demanding 100% Tariffs on India comes at a time when recently, Trump said that he is looking forward to speaking with Prime Minister Narendra Modi “in the coming weeks”. He further said that Modi is a “very good friend,” and talks are continuing to resolve trade barriers between the two countries. On social media platform Truth Social, he said that he is confident that there will be no difficulty in coming to a successful conclusion.

Further the timing of Trump to urge EU to impose tariffs on key Russian energy clients India and China seems like Donald Trump’s another attempt to put pressure on Russia to end the war in Ukraine.

‘Europe should say no’ – Analysts

Analysts post this request by the USA have expressed their views saying that the EU is unlikely to acquiesce as the EU has its own complicated trading relationship with Russia. It is unlikely for the EU to give acceptance to the White House’s request. Analysts believe that Europeans are not going to cut themselves off from their top goods importer.
