In their recent letter addressing the president of the USA, the lawmakers stated that “recent actions by Trump administration have strained relations with the world’s largest democracy. And it has created negative consequences for both the nations.” They further noted that since late August 2025, Trump’s decision to raise tariffs on Indian goods entering the US market to as high as 50 per cent as left no stone unturned in deepening the tensions between India and the US. These punitive measures have hurt Indian manufacturers while simultaneously raising prices for American consumers and damaging the intricate supply chains that American companies depend on,” the letter stated. The members of Congress requested President Donald Trump to reset and repair ties with India and urged a recalibration, not confrontation.
