N Uttam Kumar Reddy, civil supplies minister, Telangana has urged central govt. for grain storage support and more rice allocation to ensure food security in the state. As per the latest Telangana News Civil supplies minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy urged Union minister for consumer affairs and public distribution Prahlad Joshi to approve additional rice supply, clear pending dues, extend custom milled rice (CMR) timelines, provide more railway rakes and expand FCI storage support. As per the minister, these are essential steps to ensure state food security and smooth functioning of the public distribution system (PDS).
State Demands for Additional Rice Supply & Grain Storage Space
During the meeting held in Nalgonda with Uttam and roads and buildings minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, civil supplies minister submitted a proposal seeking additional rice supply of 10 lakh metric tonnes of boiled rice under kharif marketing season 2024-25 (rabi) to help Telangana complete its CMR (Custom milled rice) deliveries on time. The minister further stressed on expanding grain storage support citing state food security.
State Seeks Central Assistance for Timely Payment
He further said that nearly ₹1,400 crore from previous procurement seasons remained unpaid to the state, and both he and chief minister Revanth Reddy had pressed the union minister in Hyderabad earlier in the day for immediate release of the dues. The minister also centre intervention for clearance of subsidy claims for 89,000 metric tonnes distributed under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, amounting to around ₹343 crore. Telangana News seeking support from central govt. on additional supply and expansion of grain storage came as a relief for state farmers.
N Uttam Kumar Reddy further requested a 60-day extension for kharif and a 120-day extension for rabi CMR delivery deadlines, additional railway rakes for quicker evacuation, and one lakh metric tonnes of extra storage support at the Nalgonda FCI complex.
