As per data released by the National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories (NFCSF), Sugar production in Maharashtra has enabled India to register a 50 % growth to reach 41.35 lakh tonnes output during the first two months of the current season, which began on October 1.
If we look at November 30, around 486 lakh tonnes of sugarcane were utilised against 334 lakh tonnes a year ago, resulting in sugar production of 41.35 lakh tonnes against 27.60 lakh tonnes a year ago.
Sugar Production Data Compiled by NFCSF
Data compiled by NFCSF stated that sugar production during the month of October-November was 16.75 lt against 4.60 lt a year ago in Maharashtra, 14.10 lt against 12.90 lt in Uttar Pradesh, 8.20 lt against 7 lt in Karnataka, and 0.9 lt versus 0.75 lt in Gujarat. Notably, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka hold the position of top three sugar states in the country, and their combined share in the first two months of production was nearly 94 per cent.
In addition, Sugar production in Maharashtra is expected at 110 lt, Uttar Pradesh at 105 lt, Karnataka at 55 lt, and Gujarat at 8 lt for the entire season.
Sugarcane cutting is actively underway
The sugarcane cooperative body stated that normal monsoon and relentless rainfall have led to sugar cutting that is actively underway except in some areas of Maharashtra and Karnataka, where farmers are completely dissatisfied. Moreover, it said that the country will have a balance of nearly 75 lakh tonnes in sugar mills’ godowns, and added that this block funds, loading interest burdens on mills.
