Fresh Data on Stubble burning shows something different from the previous data, revealing how and where North India is witnessing smoke. As per recent data, Punjab is not the state now who comes in number one in stubble burning. Data from the Agricultural Research Institute from September 15 to November 28 mentioned that Punjab recorded the lowest stubble burning. On the contrary, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan are witnessing a rise in stubble burning.
Haryana records lowest in stubble burning
Haryana records the lowest in stubble burning. Its farm fell count fell from 4,063 in 2020 to Just 652 in 2025. Once the twin states known for stubble burning, Punjab and Haryana together now contribute a much smaller share to the region’s winter pollution load. However, cases have been reduced in the north-west are being offset by sharp increases in other states. Uttar Pradesh has recorded its highest number of cases in six years. The figure has reached 6,575 in 2025. The increase in mainly driven by eastern UP, where winter pollution is significant
What about Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan ?
Madhya Pradesh is going ahead in Stubble burning. The state witnessed 13, 986 fires in 2020. The number has reached 16,178, more than Punjab and Haryana combined. The latest IARI fire bulletin from November 28 shows dense clusters stretching across central and northeastern MP. Rajasthan shows a steady increase as well. Its fire count has grown from 1,682 in 2020 to 2,883 in 2025. Couple of districts dominate this trend especially in Hanumangarh, Ganganagar, Bundi and Kota.
