Rice Supply Stalled For a Month, Will Be Resumed Again

The date for supplying the prepared rice to the Bihar State Food Corporation after the paddy procurement done in the Kharif marketing season year 2024-25 in the district had expired on June 15 itself, leading to a halt in the supply of rice for about a month. Meanwhile, the central team also had to verify the paddy kept in the various PACS (Primary Agricultural Credit Societies). Additionally, this process has been completed. Concurrently, after the expiry of the date, the headquarters has again directed the SFC (Short Food Supply Chains) to take the prepared rice from the associated mills for the paddy purchased by the PACS and Vyapar Mandal. The headquarters has extended the date for CMR supply till August 10. However, due to the halt of rice supply, the presidents of PACS and Vyapar Mandal were distressed regarding the increasing interest on the CC limit of the bank. Notably, Bihar State Food Corporation has created appropriate room in the warehouse to meet the target. Moreover, the SFC and Cooperative Department should be ready to achieve the 100% target. Besides this, during the Kharif marketing season 2024-25, paddy procurement, 97 thousand 337.428 MT of paddy was purchased by PACS and trade boards. Of this, 65 thousand 216.076 MT of rice are to be prepared from the associated mills and supplied to SFC. In this, only about 16 hundred lots of rice have been received by SFC so far. Whereas around six hundred lots of rice are still left to be dropped. In such a situation, both the SFC and the Cooperative Department will have to remain active to ensure a 100 per cent supply of rice by August 10 to achieve the target on time. As the officials said, the date of the CMR supply had expired on June 15, and there was no information about the extension of the date subsequently. Now, the date of CMR supply has been extended by the department till August 10. Meanwhile, SFC will immediately open the warehouse to deposit the remaining CMR. In addition, it will try to get 100% CMR on time, as told by the District Manager, Bihar Raja Food Corporation, Siwan.
