Rajasthan Agriculture Minister Inspects Mewar University Amid Fraud Complaints

On Tuesday, 29 July, Rajasthan Agriculture Minister Dr. Kirori Lal Meena inspected Mewar University in Chittorgarh after receiving several fraud complaints. Expressing his disappointment, he noted that this institute has turned into a factory of future ruin. The Agriculture Minister stated that students are obtaining degrees based on money. Apparently, no study or transparent examination is involved, leading the youth to become ineligible for any competitive examination.
On the spot, the Agriculture Minister interacted with the students of the B.Sc. Agriculture and checked the documents. The authorities took the documents related to the university into their possession. Moreover, the Agriculture Minister announced that an FIR will be lodged through the Agriculture Department, and a reply will also be sought from the SOG (Special Operations Group). He raised the question of delay in action when the SOG had investigated earlier.
Not only this, the Meena revealed that the university had given an affidavit to the government a year ago that it would take recognition from ICAR (Indian Council of Agricultural Research), but it has not been done till now. Complaints of fraud have also surfaced in BSc Agriculture, Horticulture and Diploma courses.
Particularly, a student from Bikaner informed the Meena that he is from the commerce stream, yet a middleman took Rs. 50,000 and sent him to the Mewar University. No classes were taken, no studies were conducted– he was called directly to take the exam and was given a degree after passing in first division without writing anything.
Discussing with the media, the Agriculture Minister stated that such universities are playing with the future of the nation and farmers. Adding that the government will take strict action and the culprits will not be spared under any circumstances.
