On Saturday, July 26, the Andhra Pradesh State government said that Ragi would be distributed to the poor who have ration cards in the state. However, the recent fact is that the distribution of ragi in ration will start in the Srikakulam district. Moreover, one kilo of ragi will be distributed to the ration card holders in the district instead of one kilo of rice.
It would be further supplied in the districts from the first phase. To achieve this further, Srikakulam District Joint Collector Farman Ahmed Khan issued a statement citing that one kilo of ragi instead of one kilo of rice will be distributed to ration card holders in the district from the month of August. He stated that the Andhra Pradesh state government has taken this decision, intending to provide nutrition to the people. However, ration card holders who want ragi should inform the ration shop dealer in advance, and it will be given to them only instead of a kilo of rice.
Meanwhile, there is no doubt that the Andhra Pradesh state government has already decided to distribute cereals along with rice, sugar, lentils, wheat flour and other grains to the ration card beneficiaries in the state. However, it has been decided to distribute ragi in ration shops first. Notably, earlier, the AP Civil Supplies Minister said: “Ration shops across the state will soon be converted into mini malls with the support of the central government”. Moreover, he stated that several types of nutritious grains such as ragi, sajja, jorna and korra will be provided at a low cost in the shops. He further revealed that this decision was taken to improve public health in the state.
