PM Modi Inaugurated India’s First Bamboo-Based Ethanol Plant In Assam, Promoting Green Energy

On Sunday, September 16, PM Modi inaugurated India’s first bamboo-based bioethanol plant at Humaligarh Refinery Limited, calling it a landmark day for Viksit Bharat, Viksit Assam. This has been done in order to reduce India’s reliance on imported crude oil and promote green energy.

What did PM Modi say about the bioethanol plant?

While addressing the rally, PM Narendra Modi considered the inauguration of the bioethanol plant in Assam as a matter of great pride for the state.  With this inauguration of the Bioethanol plant, PM Modi also laid the foundation stone for a Rs. 7,230 polypropylene plant at NRL, expecting to strengthen the industrial sector. Furthermore, he said that around 10 years back, India was not ranked significantly in solar power production, but today it ranks among the top five countries on a global level, adding that India requires alternative fuels to reduce dependence on oil and gas and underscored ethanol as a suitable option.

Uniform supply of Bamboo for operations of the Bioethanol Plant

Citing the arrangements to ensure a uniform supply of bamboo for operating the bioethanol plant, he stated that the government would encourage and support local farmers in growing bamboo and also procure it directly. In addition, he reminded the rally that cutting bamboo could lead to imprisonment under the previous opposition-led government. He stressed that bamboo, which is a significant part of tribal culture, was under restrictions earlier, but now, the ban has been removed under the current govt.’s reign, which is now giving substantial benefits to the people of the Northeast.
