On Thursday, August 7, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met a group of farmers from Tamil Nadu and applauded their efforts to adopt new techniques to boost Productivity, increase sustainability, and innovation in the agriculture sector.
Sharing some images on his official X handle, he stated: “Earlier today in Parliament, met a group of farmers from Tamil Nadu. Was amazed to hear about their experiences and their focus on innovation and embracing new farming techniques to boost productivity as well as increase sustainability.”
A strong Message by PM Modi amid Trump’s tariff imposition
Not only that, but Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asserted that Indian farmers will remain his top priority and that their interests will not be compromised. The welfare of farmers is of the utmost importance to his government.
While addressing the MS Swaminathan Centenary International Conference, he said: “For us, the interest of our farmers is our top priority. India will never compromise on the interests of farmers, fishermen, and dairy farmers. I know we will have to pay a heavy price for it, and I am ready for it. India is ready for it,”.
This strong message comes in the wake of the Trump administration imposing tariffs from 25 per cent to 50 per cent on goods from India. Significantly, during trade negotiations, the US pushed for greater access to India’s agricultural market, especially for corn, soybeans, and cotton.
PM Modi introduced the First M.S. Swaminathan Award
Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced the first M.S. Swaminathan Award for Food and Peace in the event and conferred it to a Nigerian Scientist named Dr.Arenare for the efforts to tackle poverty and hunger in Nigeria.
Extending Congratulations to Nigerian Scientist, PM Modi said: “If there is a crisis of food, then there is a crisis of life, and when the lives of lakhs are at risk, global unrest naturally follows. This is why the M.S. Swaminathan Award for Food and Peace is of utmost importance,”.
