As per recent updates, Odisha has scaled up the organic farming drive by the 51st meeting of the Odisha State Seed Organic Product Certification Agency and the fifth governing board meeting of the Odisha State Organic Certification Agency, which occurred on Friday, focusing on generating wider opportunities for organic farming. The meetings occurred under the chairmanship of Dr Arabinda Padhee, Principal Secretary of the Development of Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment, at Krushi Bhavan.
Meetings emphasised creating several opportunities for organic farming
These meetings emphasised creating several opportunities for organic farming, streamlining organic certification, and supporting certified seed farmers in the state. Officials stated that the government is reinforcing the efforts to enhance organic cultivation, with plans to bring more farmland under the Balabhadra Organic Farming Mission. Currently, Certified organic rice produced under the Amrit Anna project is already being used as Kothabhog at the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri, a milestone that indicates the growing acceptance of organically grown produce in significant state institutions.
Furthermore, Dr Padhee appealed to the officials to increase the expansion of organic farming areas and involve more farmers in the certification process. In addition, he underscored the need to ensure timely access to quality seeds and boost certification mechanisms to support farmers. The meeting was graced by Director of Agriculture Shubham Saxena, Director of Horticulture Kulange Gorakh Waman, officials from both certification agencies, governing board members, and farmer representatives.
Not only this, but a booklet was also unveiled in the show, which carried the success stories of organic farmers certified by Odisha State Organic Certification Agency, with annual reports of the Odisha State Seed Organic Product Certification Agency. Ravi Narayan Panda, Director of the Odisha State seed Organic Product Certification Agency, coordinated the discussions.
