Taking to X, PM Modi stated on Wednesday, that Natural farming will address challenges in agriculture, such as decreasing soil fertility, moisture and long-term sustainability and the increase in farming costs. Further, he issued a clarion call to people in India to adapt and expand natural farming practices.
Natural Farming draws from India’s traditional Knowledge systems
Moreover, he cited that natural farming draws from India’s traditional knowledge systems as well as modern ecological principles to cultivate crops without synthetic chemicals. He highlighted that the approach depends upon recycling farm residues and improving soil health through mulching and aeration, not on depending upon external inputs
A Summit on Natural Farming in Coimbatore
PM Modi revealed that he attended a summit on Natural Farming in Coimbatore around two weeks ago, which left a lasting impression on his mind. Underscoring that India has made commendable progress in agriculture, he mentioned that last year the government launched the National Mission on Natural Farming, which has connected lakhs of farmers with sustainable practices. Moreover, he outlined the government efforts, such as encouraging exports, significantly expanding institutional credit via Kisan Credit Card along with for livestock and fisheries, and the PM-Kisan scheme have benefitted farmers carrying out natural farming is closely associated with India’s efforts to promote Shree Anna.
