On Monday, September 01, Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan chaired a high-level meeting in Delhi to review the current crop situation in the country. He received detailed updates on rainfall patterns in various states during the meeting. Moreover, he assessed the effects of recent floods in Punjab. Senior officials informed the Minister about the situation of crops, reservoirs, and overall agricultural conditions.
What the Agri Minister Chouhan say about Punjab Farmers?
Minister Chouhan assured the Punjab’s farmers that the Central Government stands firmly with those affected by natural disasters and stressed that there is no need for concern. Furthermore, he announced his plans to visit flood-affected areas in Punjab in the upcoming days to meet with farmers and offer support. In addition, Senior officials, including Union Agriculture Secretary Dr. Devesh Chaturvedi, presented a detailed report underscoring an encouraging growth in the Kharif crop sowing area compared to last year. Not only this, but the meeting also covered progress in horticulture, with a focus on potato, onion, and tomato production and pricing. The officials also noted that various states have experienced above-average rainfall this year. It leads to replenished reservoirs and favourable conditions for crops. On a related note, Minister Chouhan instructed officials to promote integrated farming and horticulture alongside traditional food crops to improve farmer incomes and ensure sustainable agricultural growth. In addition, he called for extensive awareness campaigns to popularise the Integrated Farming Model among farmers.
