A mega agriculture awareness mela, cum Kisan Mela, has been organised by KVK(Krishi Vigyan Kendra) Srinagar today at Bakshipora, Eidgah under the guidance of the Directorate of Extension in collaboration with the J&K Rural Development Society. Notably, the event aims to empower farmers and boost their awareness about modern and profitable farming methods.
The mega agriculture awareness mela cum Kisan Mela, was inaugurated by Mubarak Gul, MLA, Eidgah Constituency, and Prof. Rehana H. Kanth, Director Extension, SKUAST-K, in the presence of Yunus Mubarak Gul, Chairman J&K Rural Development Society, and Prof. Shamim A. Simnani, Head KVK Srinagar.
What did the inaugurators say about the mega agriculture awareness mela, cum Kisan Mela?
MLA Mubarak Gul noted the changing drive of the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP), saying it could ensure self-sufficiency in agriculture, develop employment, boost the farming community, improve the economy, and diminish reliance on imports. Moreover, he applauded KVK Srinagar for translating scientific research into practical field applications and supporting farmers in adopting innovative practices.
Furthermore, Prof. Rehana Kanth stressed that Qamarwari, a renowned vegetable belt of Srinagar, sustains massive potential to be identified as the Vegetable Bowl of Kashmir. Additionally, she appealed to the farmers to practice scientific and sustainable cultivation methods. She further said that adhering to these methods could ensure a year-round supply of fresh produce, boost incomes, and improve food security. Additionally, Prof. Shamim Simnani noted KVK Srinagar’s role in removing the differences between research and farmers’ fields. He recognised the support of the Vice Chancellor for HADP by highlighting its significant role in encouraging agriculture as a sustainable and entrepreneurial sector. In addition, Farmers praised these initiatives, saying that these initiatives strengthen awareness and confidence in following modern and profitable farming methods.
