MDARD Awards Over $1.8 Million to Help Agri-Business to Expand

The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) has awarded over $1.8 million of Underserved, Value Added and Regional Food System Grants to 26 Michigan producers, processors and community development organizations. Three companies in Northern Michigan were among 26 in the state to receive grant funding from MDARD.

Grant Program by MDARD Reflects the Effort of the Department

As per the director of MDARD, Tim Boring the grant program by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development is just one example of how MDARD helps in improving the quality of life for Michiganders by strengthening the food systems and agriculture businesses that sustain the health and prosperity of masses. Depicting the grant as a strategic investment, the director said that the investment will enhance the production and delivery of locally grown foods while creating more than 100 jobs across the state.

After a Rigorous Review Process, MDARD awarded Underserved, Value Added and Regional Food System Grants to the following 26 entities:

Mid-Michigan

Northern  Michigan

  • Bear Creek Organics LLC (Petoskey) 
  • Boss Dairy Farms Inc
  • By the Light of Day (Traverse City)
  • DeBacker Family Dairy, LLC (Menominee

Southeast Michigan

  • Ghost Acre Farm (Detroit)
  • Give and Grow Mushrooms, LLC (Chesterfield) 
  • Jewish Family Services of Washtenaw County, Inc (Ann Arbor)
  • The Lindsay Street Greenbelt Collective (Detroit)
  • Mother of Pearl Design LLC (Detroit) 
  • Samit & Sajid Qurbani House (Hamtramck) 
  • Sanctuary Farms (Detroit)
  • Washtenaw Meats LLC (Ann Arbor) 

Other Entities Include from regions of Southwest Michigan, Thumb, and West Michigan.
