A Krishi Mela has been organized by the University of Agricultural Sciences. It was a four-day event concluded at the GKVK campus on Sunday, November 16, registering a total of nearly 54 lakh visitors and revenue of Rs 4.77 crore, showcasing the state’s agricultural strength. Interestingly, the stalls, exhibitions, and demonstrations at the event drew the farmers, agricultural enthusiasts, students, and the general public.
Farmer-to-farmer discussions took place on final day on the issue of ‘Indigenous Breeds and Agricultural Practices’. Awards such as the Dr. M.H. Marigowda National Endowment Award for Outstanding Horticultural Research, the Dr. M.H. Marigowda State Award for Best Horticulture Farmer, and the Dr. R. Dwarakinath State Award for Best Farmer were presented to Achievers from Karnataka.
Farmers are generators of employment, said Agri minister at Krishi Mela
Praising the event, Agriculture Minister and UAS Bengaluru Pro Chancellor N Cheluvarayaswamy stated that Farmers are not just good Food producers but employment generators. Moreover, he highlighted that the government has rolled out various schemes to boost farming, allowing farmers to consult with scientists and seek solutions to their problems.
Furthermore, congratulating award receivers, he said that we must farm in harmony with nature. The life of environmentalist Saalumarada Thimmakka should inspire today’s generation. Let us protect soil, conserve water and practice eco-friendly agriculture and chemical-free farming so that we leave behind a fertile land for the future.
Krishi Mela: A festival of Science
Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda called Krishi Mela as a festival of science rather than just an exhibition. Further, he added that the smiles of farmers, active women participation and guidance from scientists have given life to this mela. The Event displayed the strength, potential and future of Karnataka’s agriculture sector. In addition, he cited that the award-winning farmers emerged out as paradigms for young cultivators and encouraged farmers to adopt the technologies shown at the mela.
