Ministry of Agriculture released its latest data on Kharif crop area as of 13 June 2025, which indicates a significant increase in the area under paddy crops. As per the reports, the total sown area has reached 89.29 lakh hectares, which is 1 .48 lakh hectares more in comparison to the same period last year. This major boost in sown area is attributed to area under paddy, pulses and oil seed crops.
Significant Increase in Paddy Sowing
Major Kharif Crop, Rice has registered an increase of 13% to 4.53 lakh hectares from 4 lakh hectares last year. This increase reflects improved market sentiment and favourable conditions. Along with rice, pulses and soyabean have also registered a major boost in comparison to last year. Pulses have also experienced growth in sowing, reaching 307,000 hectares, which is 18 percent higher than last year’s 260,000 hectares. Moong and urad have shown significant gains.
Soyabean has registered an increase of 66,000 hectares whereas oil seeds have reported an expansion of 205,000 hectares from 150,000 hectares previous year.
Early Monsoon – A New Hope for Farmers
Sugarcane coverage has also risen marginally to 55.07 lakh hectares from 54.87 lakh hectares. This growth in sowing area is attributed to early Monsoon and timely preparations by farmers.
