Kesar mango is now the favourite mango of foreigners defeating Alphonso both in taste and exports. Kesar has become India’s most exported mango leaving behind Alphonso. Comparatively, Kesar is excellent in taste and cheaper in prices than Alphonso. For the second consecutive year, Kesar aam has become India’s most exported mango, whereas the demand for Alphonso is decreasing among foreigners. As per the data released by the Union Commerce Ministry, in the financial year 2024-25, India exported Kesar mangoes worth about Rs 99 crore to foreign countries, while the export of Alphonso declined to about Rs 74 crore.
Kesar Mango Beat Alphonso
The export of Alphonso mango in the financial year 2021-22 was around Rs 87 crore, while the export of saffron (Kesar mango) was limited to around Rs 60 crore. However, in the last few years, saffron has not only strengthened its hold, but has emerged as the new export king by leaving Alphonso behind.
The increase in figure of export was not only noticed in America and Arabia but the demand for other affordable varieties like Kesar, Chaunsa, Dussehri, Totapuri, Banganapalli has also increased in markets like America, Britain, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Canada, Germany, Kuwait, Oman, Yemen and Netherlands.
