Kargil’s Apricots Gets International Recognition: Halman variety exported to Gulf countries

Halman Apricots from Kargil goes global. The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), in cooperation with the Union Territory Administration of Ladakh and Fair Exports (India) Pvt. Ltd., has successfully flagged off the maiden export consignment of fresh Halman Apricots from Ladakh to Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Qatar.

The Halman Apricots sourced from pristine high- altitude belts of Kargil, is renowned for its distinct sweetness, rich flavour, and long shelf-life is making its international debut under the "One District One Product" and "Vocal for Local, Global Outreach" two major initiatives by the Government of India.

Kargil Apricots variety named as Halman Apricots were procured directly from farmers and the first which was the inaugural consignment weighing approx. 1.5 metric tonnes were meticulously packed and assessed to meet stringent international quality standards. This commendable move underscores India’s sustained efforts to promote region-specific exports, enhance global visibility for indigenous produce, and support stakeholders through market access and logistical facilitation.

The apricots in partnership with LuLu Group India, will be used for marketing purpose across the vast spread retail network of LuLu Hypermarkets in the Gulf, ensuring premium shelf presence and opening new market linkages for Himalayan-origin fruits. Officials from APEDA expressed their gratitude towards the govt. of India and said that this initiative not only boosts farmers' income in Ladakh but also strengthens India's footprint in the global horticulture trade, aligning with the government's vision of sustainable, inclusive export growth.
