Kapas Kranti Mission Strengthens Cotton Farming, Guiding Digital Transformation

As per recent sources, India’s cotton production is witnessing a steady transformation with the government’s new Rs 600 crore Kapas Kranti Mission. Notably, the mission is deploying advanced farming methods and guiding the sector into the digital ecosystem.

Kapas Kranti Mission focuses on science, technology, and innovation

Since the introduction of Kapas Kranti Mission, every stage of cotton cultivation-from seed to sale-will focus on science, technology, and innovation. It will allow farmers in India’s cotton-growing regions to enhance productivity through high-density plantation (HDP), precision irrigation, and scientific agronomy. The mission is about adapting advancedfarming methods such as closer plant spacing and technology-driven irrigation. The initiative produced better results in Akola district of Maharashtra which emerged as a model for innovative cotton cultivation, is now being launched to Telangana Farmers.

Kapas Kisan App Launched after Diwali

Launched after Diwali, the Kapas Kisan Appallows farmers to pre-book sales slots, bypass middlemen, and secure fair prices for their produce. In addition, it provides real-time updates on procurement schedules, market rates, and quality standards. The Kapas Kranti Mission emerges even as the country’s cotton sector made significant progress in the last decade. Cotton procurement rose from 173 lakh bales ($3.5 billion) to 473 lakh bales ($17 billion) between 2014 and 2024, and the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for cotton nearly doubled. Furthermore, the report mentioned that transparency, cracking down on middlemen, unscrupulous ginning mills, and counterfeit seed suppliers, has been key to the success.
As per report, interestingly, the modernization of cotton cultivation will aid in strengthening the textile sector with high-quality long-staple cotton, generate millions of jobs, and expand exports. Apparently, this indicates a broader vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat, and it will also help the country expand its presence in the global market.
