J&K LG Announces Smart Houses for Victims of Floods and Operation Sindoor

The Lieutenant Governor’s administration has taken a major step to provide immediate relief to the affected families during the recent floods and Operation Sindoor in Jammu and Kashmir. As a spokesperson of the Lieutenant Governor’s administration said, more than 1500 free smart houses will be built in the state for the affected families with the help of High-Range Rural Development Society-India (HRDS-India).

What does LG say about Smart Houses further?

Addressing this occasion, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said, “Construction of houses is more than just erecting a structure. It is about realising dreams, making a new beginning and adding a new chapter to the lives of the affected families. The human loss is grim and horrible, and it cannot be evaluated, but this initiative will definitely reduce their suffering.” His statement came during the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between HRDS-India and the Divisional Commissioners of the Jammu and Kashmir Division.

How will the smart houses be?

The smart houses comprise three bedrooms. They will have state-of-the-art facilities of comfort and security. Moreover, all members of every house will get 15 years of life insurance coverage. Apart from these, monthly health checkup, free digital connectivity and internet facility (in collaboration with BSNL) and free whitewashing/painting will be carried out every 5 years. Besides this, HRDS India will also identify terror-affected families whose houses were destroyed by terrorists. Trained volunteers will regularly visit the beneficiary families to provide awareness related to health, education, hygiene and preventive care. Sinha said that this agreement is a concrete effort towards giving a strong and secure future to the families affected by incidents such as natural disasters and cross-border shelling.
