India’s Rice Prices Hit Two-Year Low

New Delhi, 6 June 2025
India is the world’s largest exporters of rice. India exports a large quantity of rice every year and it plays an important role in the Indian economy. However, a latest report depicts a near two-year low in Indian rice export prices, whereas Thai rice demand remains weak.
India’s 5% broken parboiled rice variety was quoted at $384-$391 per metric ton, down from the last week’s $390-$397, while Indian 5% broken white rice was priced at $378 to $385 per ton this week. The central government has increased the MSP of paddy by 3 percent, which is the lowest increase in the last 5 years.
It is worth to be noted that export prices are coming down because of falling rupee. Global market is facing continuous decrease in demand for rice. Thailand’s 5% broken rice price rose to $420 per ton from $410. According to a trader from Bangkok “It’s very quiet this year. Indonesia and the Philippines, which used to buy a lot, have enough production,”. The fall in foreign demand for rice is likely to have impact on Indian rice export prices.
