In the financial year 2024-25 India witnessed a slight increase in the production of rubber. FY 2024-25 marked a marginal increase of 2.1% in rubber production. However, the import of regular and compound rubber has experienced a significant increase, with the imports of rubber been registered at 11.8%.
To meet the domestic demands country imports rubber worth Rs 7 thousand crores annually, which signifies a difference of 5.35 lakh tonnes between rubber production and country’s consumption.
Kerala is the largest producer of rubber in India, contributing 74% of the total rubber production in India. Imports of rubber by tire companies despite of increase in the international market is the major cause of loss for farmers.
