India, Vietnam Sign Agreement, Resolve To Increase Defence Cooperation

India and Vietnam signed an agreement to set up a framework for submarine search, rescue, and support mechanisms in case of any eventualities to increase defence cooperation.In addition, both nations signed a letter of intent (LOI) to boost bilateral defence industry collaboration. Apparently, the documents were signed after both countries held the 15th edition of India-Vietnam Defence Policy Dialogue (DPD) in Hanoi. Rajesh Kumar Singh, Defence Secretary, and Lt Gen Hoang Xuan Chien, Deputy Minister of National Defence, had co-chaired the meeting.

The defence ministry stated that both nations expressed satisfaction with progress made in the areas of hydrography cooperation, capacity building and training, and ship visits and defence cooperation in niche domains, namely AI and shipyard upgradation. Furthermore, they also decided to expand and further deepen cooperation in significant emerging areas such as cyber security and real-time exchange of information. Apart from this, the countries exchanged views on the regional security situation. A memorandum of Agreement (MoA) was signed for mutual submarine search, rescue support, and cooperation. Besides this, it will also offer for setting up of joint ventures, procurement of equipment and materials for defence production and experts exchange and equipment production, the ministry stated further.
