In the recent updates regarding global trade ties, Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi invited India to invest in key sectors like agriculture, minerals and sports. Not only this, he also urged for the reopening of the Wagah border to enhance India-Afghanistan trade and transit.
Minister Muttaqi and EAM Jaishanker talks stressed on India-Afghanistan trade
Pushing this move, Muttaqi met and held detailed discussions with India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar that stressed on India-Afghanistan trade, infrastructure, humanitarian cooperation and regional security. He outlined the capability of Afghanistan mineral sector, estimated to be worth nearly $ 1 trillion-with reserves of lithium, copper, gold, iron ore and other rare earth minerals and urged the Indian companies to participate in mining and development projects.
Appeal for Wagah border reopening for smooth trade transit
Additionally, the minister appealed for improved trade transit via the Wagah border to boost economic relations and regional integration. Both nations renewed their shared commitment to peace, security, and cooperation, with India recognizing Afghanistan’s position on combating terrorism and recognizing security concerns. Notably, the diplomatic involvement represents a significant step toward renewing India-Afghanistan trade ties as well as strategic partnerships on a global scale.
