In a remarkable step toward promoting sustainable agriculture and boost soil health, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and African Plant Nutrition Institute (APNI), Morocco, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in New Delhi. The MoU between Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and African Plant Nutrition Institute (APNI) is aimed at strengthening collaboration in soil health, precision in plant nutrition management, and resilient farming systems.
Aim to Support Sustainable Agriculture
The MoU was formally signed by Dr. M. L. Jat, Secretary (DARE) and Director General of ICAR, and Dr. Kaushik Majumdar, Director General of APNI, in the presence of senior ICAR officials. Expectations are high that the partnership will help in joint research initiatives, knowledge exchange, and science-led solutions that support sustainable agriculture and help farmers adapt to the challenges that they may have to face due to climate change.
APNI – A Non-Profit Organization
APNI, a non-profit research and education organization was established in 2019 and is headquartered at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University in Benguérir, Morocco. It has its regional offices in Settat (Morocco), Nairobi (Kenya), and Yamoussoukro (Côte d’Ivoire). The organization is dedicated to advancing plant nutrition through evidence-based practices and promoting sustainable soil management across Africa.
The MoU between ICAR and APNI is further expected to foster innovation, enhance capacity building, and promote best practices for soil management and sustainable agriculture practices.
