Govt Hikes Copra MSP by up to Rs 445 for 2026 Season

The government increased Copra MSP for the coming 2026 season, a strategic move aimed at ensuring better returns to coconut farmers and boosting production to meet rising demand for coconut based products. In its latest released, commodity prices the government increased the minimum support price for milling copra by up to Rs 445 to Rs 12,027 per quintal for the 2026 season. In this context, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw post the meeting of the Cabinest Committee on Economic affairs, which was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the minimum support price (MSP) for ball copra has also been raised by Rs 400 to Rs 12,500 per quintal for the same season.

Copra MSP Raised for the Fair and Average Quality

MSP hike has been done on the recommendations of the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP), and both ‘fair and average quality’ of milling and ball copra are covered under this MSP Hike. The Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw further said that the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd (NAFED) as well as the National Cooperative Consumers’ Federation (NCCF) will continue to act as Central Nodal Agencies for government procurement of copra under the price support scheme.

The new increased commodity prices are poised to incentivise coconut farmers to expand coconut market through production in order to meet increasing demand for coconut based products both domestically and internationally.

MSP for Copra Increased on Regular Intervals

Since 2014, the central government has focused on MSP hike for Copra, where the Copra MSP has risen from Rs 5,250 per quintal in the 2014 marketing season to Rs 12,027 per quintal for 2026, depicting a growth of 129 per cent. Ball copra has also experienced hike in its Govt MSP price rising from Rs 5,500 per quintal to Rs 12,500 per quintal, registering a 127 per cent gain.
