Uttar Pradesh is witnessing flood havoc as rivers overflow due to heavy rains, with floodwaters entering more than 400 villages. Not only this, more than four thousand hectares of farmland have been submerged and at least 12 people have lost their lives in the mishappenings such as lightning, drowning and snake bites in the last 24 hours. Administrative teams are conducting rescue operations in flood-affected areas, rescuing more than two thousand animals in flood-affected districts till now.
Heavy Rainfall from the Mountains and the release of water from Dams have caused rivers to overflow, which has directly affected various districts of Uttar Pradesh, such as Kanpur Nagar, Lakhimpur Kheri, Agra, Auraiya, Chitrakoot, Ballia, Banda, Ghazipur, Mirzapur, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Chandauli, Jalaun, Kanpur Dehat, Hamirpur, Etawah and Fatehpur. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has instructed the officials to conduct effective relief operations. Apart from this, a group of ministers constituted as Team 11 has been sent to numerous districts to take stock of the ground situation.
402 villages of 37 tehsils submerged
Relief Commissioner Bhanu Chandra Goswami stated that around 402 villages of 37 tehsils have been submerged due to floodwater till now. Nearly 84392 people have been affected by this terrible natural disaster. He further informed that the teams are engaged in relief work and have provided relief material to nearly 47,906 people. Over 2,759 cattle have been shifted to a safe place from the flood-affected areas. 343 houses were damaged in this disaster, out of which 327 families have been given compensation. He revealed that 4015 hectares of agricultural land have been submerged.
Floods Disrupted The Balance Of The Rivers
According to the Irrigation and Water Resources Department of Uttar Pradesh, several rivers are flowing above the danger mark. Notably, the Ganga river is above the danger mark in Prayagraj, Varanasi, Ghazipur, Mirzapur and Ballia. Yamuna, Betwa, Chambal, Sharda, and Ghaghra rivers are also overflowing.
Ministers Visited Flood-Affected Areas
The Ministers included in the Team, 11, constituted by the Chief Minister, visited the flood-affected areas of the districts. Jalshakti Minister Swatantra Dev Singh reached Jalaun and Hamirpur, whereas Finance Minister Suresh Khanna reached Varanasi. Other ministers reached Prayagraj, Ballia, Etawah, Agra and other districts.
State Government Appeals The state government has instructed all the districts to ensure additional health facilities, clean drinking water arrangements to deal with waterborne diseases and a safe electricity supply. Moreover, the public has been asked to avoid rumours, follow the guidelines given by the administration and contact the helpline number if needed.
